ROBERT RATHBONE
I was very lucky to come across Future Orchard Cork. What drew my attention were packets of seeds of wild flowers titled ‘Save the Bees. Ammunition for the Guerrilla Gardener’. This was the moment when I started dreaming more intensely about having my own garden and how I would love to have a patch of wild flowers at my doorstep and at the same time provide for bees. Putting this aside, I went to meet the lady behind the scenes in a really beautiful and pristine spot whose passion was contagious. Upon my arrival there was a hot beverage made of apples available as this was how they were greeting people who were also collecting their veg boxes (who were to come later on). When I said to her I would like to combine planting as a literal action and a metaphorical one through my art project (via performances and installations) she instantly connected and really wanted to help out as much as possible. There was so much kindness and generosity flowing from her even though it was obvious she was really busy and her hands were full. I felt how both of our projects connected thanks to plants and trees and how that could be passed on to others. I felt symbiosis. Also, it reminded me of the story I told about bumblebees and that experiment on how they teach each other during the Gab.
